We need to drink water! Lots of it, in order to stay healthy. Because of the exaggerated use of carbonated and caffeinated drinks, many of us today have a hard time drinking plain water. Fruit infused water is a great alternative to drinking sugary beverages like fruit juices and sodas. Infused water also has a lot of benefits that you won’t get with actual fruit juices and they’re easy to make. You simply choose the fruit that you want to use to add flavor to the water and follow the instructions below to make your own delicious infused water.

How to Make Fruit Infused Water

Making infused water with fruit is a simple process but it does take time. Start with cold or cool filtered water. Do not use hot water because it can make the fruit fall apart too quickly. As a result, it will reduce the amount of nutrients and vitamins that go into the water, which reduces the benefits associated with drinking infused water.

After filling your glass jar with cold water, cut up the fruits you want to use and add them to the jar. If you’re using hard fruits like apples, then cut them into thin slices so they will release the flavor faster. When using soft fruits like oranges and strawberries, you can make the slices thicker. Buy organic fruits when you can because they provide the most benefits.

The last step is to put the jar in the refrigerator for about four hours. Some recipes will require you to refrigerate overnight, so don’t just assume four hours is long enough. This process is what draws the nutrients and flavor from the fruits into the water giving it that amazing fruity taste.

Here are some of the fruits you can use in your water:

  • Pineapple
  • Cucumber
  • Grape
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Grapefruit
  • Oranges
  • Watermelon
  • Mango
  • Raspberries
  • Cherries

Herb Infused Waters

Fruit water is great, but if you’d like some variety, you can also make some water infused with herbs. Herbs will enhance the flavor of the water in different ways than the fruits can. Some of my favorite herbs for water infusing are:

  • peppermint
  • rosemary
  • mint
  • cilantro

Benefits of Drinking Fruit Infused Water

Your body needs water to stay hydrated and other types of beverages just don’t provide you with the same benefits as plain water does. Since drinking water can be difficult for some people, infused water makes it easier to drink more because it tastes so good.

You’ll notice the fruity flavor the second you take a sip but it’s not overwhelming or so sweet that it leaves an aftertaste like some fruit juices and even sodas do. Since it does not contain all the added sugars, it’s a healthy, natural way to flavor your water.

If you’re searching for a healthier way to quench your thirst, then making your own infused water using your favorite fruits may be exactly what you need.

Lemon water is known to help your body detox. Many people today start their day with a glass of warm lemon water. But today, you can take that to the next level, and make some cold, refreshing lemon water to drink throughout the day.

  • 2 sliced lemons
  • 2 quarts of fresh water (or, if you want to add a bit more zing to your drink, you can use sparkling water
  • fresh herbs (optional)

Add the lemons (and herbs, if you want any) to your pitcher, fill with water, and place in the fridge for about 4 hours (or overnight). For variety, you can add other citrus fruits to make citrus flavored water.

Fresh berries are delicious and very refreshing. Adding them to your water, will make drinking water much easier and even fun. It’s easy to make berry flavored waters: just add your favorite combination of berries, and cold water. I use 8 oz of fruit to 64 oz of water. Add some herbs or flowers for variation (lavender is amazing!).

Fruit Infused Water Bottle

It’s very important to use the right container for your infused waters. The bestinfused water bottle is made of glass, no question about it. When you’re home, that’s easy. You can make your infused waters in glass Mason jars: this gives you the option to make several different flavors, for variety. I prefer large, half gallon jars for my infused waters. Amazon has my favorite Ball Wide Mouth Half Gallon Jars.

Now, if you want to take your infused water on the go, there are many fruit infusing water bottles on the market. Obviously, most of them are not glass, since that is hard to carry around; but they are BPA free, and easy to carry. This is one of my favorite ones: it’s a pack of two bottles with insulating sleeves and they come with a flavored water recipe eBook.
